The Story of Me and Evie Rose

How did it start?

When I was little, I loved watching my mum sew. She would make dresses, and toys for me and my sister, and plenty of her own clothes too. I was fascinated by it all, and when I was about 12, I decided it was time I learnt how to sew too.

By the time I was a teenager, I was making myself a new outfit for the local disco practically every week.

At 16, I realised I probably wasn’t really acedemic and didn't want to stay at school and study, but I did know I was creative. So, I went to college to study fashion and, before long, landed a pretty good job in the fashion industry.

Life then took me to many different places, eventually bringing me to Australia. My work here was in an office, definitely not the creative life I’d once imagined. But sewing never really left me. In fact, calling it a love might be understating things slightly, it’s probably fair to say I was obsessed.

Sewing when I could

So I sewed whenever I could. Evenings, weekends, stolen moments. If I had the time, I had the sewing machine out. I made clothes for myself and my family and happily disappeared into my sewing room whenever life allowed.

Then I retired.

More time to sew! Honestly, retirement had some very obvious advantages.

There was plenty of travelling too, with my mum and my husband. Covid came and went, and eventually we were able to get back to travelling and enjoying life.

This is Evie Rose...

My granddaughter was born!

I was absolutely ecstatic. I totally fell in love with her. And, naturally, I did what I know and love best, I started sewing.

I made outfit after outfit for her, and she quickly became, without question, the best-dressed newborn around.

People loved the vintage-inspired designs, and I loved making them. It was the perfect combination: my lifelong love of sewing, my background in fashion, and a very special little girl who gave me a wonderful reason to get creating again.

And that’s how Evie Rose – Vintage Remakes began. A little bit of nostalgia, a lot of sewing, and one very loved granddaughter who started it all.
